Éditions AKOMA MBA (Cameroon)

Since January 2024, the Executive Committee of the African Observatory of Publishing Professionals (OAPE AFRICA) has authorised the creation of an affiliation programme for publishers who so wish. This programme only concerns independent publishers from the South (Africa and the Caribbean). We welcome Éditions AKOMA MBA (from Cameroon).

Founded in 1995, Editions Akoma Mba is the oldest publishing house specialising in illustrated albums and comic strips in Central Africa. Its main aim is to promote Africa and universal African values to young children through innovative editorial content. They have a catalogue of around a hundred titles, published in several languages (French, English, local).
Akoma Mba distributes its books in Cameroon and internationally. Its authors come from Belgium, Benin, Brazil, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, France, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Togo and elsewhere.
Editions Akoma Mba has won several international prizes for its albums: Munich International Library, Unicef in Dakar, IBBY International. Madoulina by Joël Eboueme Bognomo won the Children’s Literature Prize of Honour with the American publisher Boyds Mills Press.
Akoma Mba takes part in international book fairs and shows: Bologna in Italy, Montreuil and Paris in France, FIBDA in Algeria, Frankfurt in Germany, Casablanca in Morocco, Fildak in Dakar, etc. The publishing house organises an International fair for children’s books and comics in Yaoundé (SALIJEY).
